Generally praised for its visuals and considered a front-runner for the corresponding Oscar, Inception proved its power in the FX department by earning four nominations for the ninth annual Visual Effects Society Awards, including the top honor for Outstanding Visual Effects in a Visual Effects-Driven Feature Motion Picture.
Other contenders for the VES’ top prize includes Iron Man 2, Tron: Legacy, and Alice in Wonderland.
Inception‘s other nominations include outstanding created environment (“Paris Dreamscape”), models and miniatures (“Hospital Fortress Destruction”), and compositing.
Additionally, the director of Inception, Christopher Nolan, will be honored at the ceremony with the inaugural VES Visionary Award.
Boardwalk Empire one-upped Nolan’s film with five nominations, but for honors in television categories.
There are 24 categories in this year’s VES Awards and not only honors the best visual effects in live-action film, animated film, and television, but also in video games, commercials, shorts, and student projects.
The winners will be announced on February 1st at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles and the ceremony will be televised on February 19th on REELZCHANNEL.
