The stars of the new teen sci-fi/fantasy film I Am Number Four, Alex Pettyfer (From the upcoming feature film Beastly) and Dianna Agron (Glee), visited Hot Topic at The Shops at Tanforan in San Bruno, CA on Saturday afternoon to promote the movie, and starry-eyed fans—some who waited in line for as long as seven hours—had the prized opportunity to meet-and-greet the stars. I estimate that there must have been about 200-300 lucky ones who got to see the two cuties face-to-face.
Rules for the meet-and-greet were very strict: Fans received an exclusive I Am Number Four poster to be signed by Alex and Dianna, but nothing else. However, both defied the rule if asked by a fan nicely, as well as defied the “no hugs” rule. One rule that was a definite “no” though was that no cameras were allowed in the meet-and-greet line, so if you’re wondering why there isn’t much pictorial evidence of fan interactions, this is why. I didn’t want to risk getting kicked out, nor make the store assistant manager “cry big elephant tears streaming down my face.”
However, what I should have ignored were the “Okay, that’s it, move along”‘s of the line monitors because it all felt so rushed and ended too soon, which is what most of these “organized” meet-and-greets are like anyway. But I enjoyed witnessing all of the interactions between the two stars and the people in front of me (Alex and my sister chatting easily and pretty comprehensively about tattoos? How adorable), and Dianna responded to my “You look beautiful!” with “YOU’RE beautiful!” which I admit gave me a hummingbird heartbeat. Alex seemed to be a little shy, but friendly if you initiated conversation, and Dianna had the brightest and most genuine smile on her face the entire time. Overall, they were both very sweet and gracious.
After the signing, which lasted for about two hours, Alex and Dianna went up to Century Theaters upstairs where an auditorium of many of the fans who attended the meet-and-greet filled up every seat for a preview screening of I Am Number Four. The two talked a little bit about the film and the production, which they mentioned shooting for most of this past summer. Though they left the theater after the brief introduction, the crowd reacted very positively and enthusiastically throughout the movie, screaming and applauding during the most action-packed moments—and every time Alex was shirtless.
The event was particularly meaningful for Dianna, who was raised in San Francisco and attended nearby Burlingame High School. She Tweeted this morning, “Thank you to everyone who came out yesterday in SF. You were so thoughtful and kind. Always wonderful to be home, even if only for a day.”
East Coast fans will also have the opportunity to meet Dianna and Alex, as they will be making an appearance at the Hot Topic at Garden State Plaza in Paramus, NJ on Feb. 5th.
Look out for my review of I Am Number Four soon!
