‘Inception’ dominates 37th Annual Saturn Award nominations

Christopher Nolan‘s Inception leads the nominations for The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror Films’ 37th Annual Saturn Awards, which were announced last week. The mind-bending action thriller has landed nine nominations, including Best Science Fiction Film, Best Director, Best Writing, Best Actor for Leonardo DiCaprio (A double nominee for Shutter Island), Best Actress for Ellen Page, and Best Supporting Actor for Tom Hardy.

Another Oscar favorite, Black Swan, landed five nominations, including Best Horror/Thriller Film, Best Director for Darren Aronofsky, Best Actress for Natalie Portman, and Best Supporting Actress for Mila Kunis.

Even stronger showings came up for Let Me In and Tron: Legacy‘s seven nominations. Let Me In has been nominated for Best Horror/Thriller Film, Best Director for Matt Reeves, and two nods for Best Performance by a Younger Actor for Kodi Smith McPhee and Chloe Grace Moretz. The Disney sequel Tron: Legacy‘s nominations include Best Science Fiction Film, Best Actor for Jeff Bridges, and Best Supporting Actor for Garrett Hedlund.

The Clint Eastwood-directed and Warner Bros.-produced Hereafter landed six nominations, and Alice in Wonderland, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, Never Let Me Go, and Shutter Island also scored multiple nominations with five each.

AMC’s The Walking Dead leads the television categories with six nominations, including Best Television Presentation, Best Actor for Andrew Lincoln, Best Actress for Sarah Wayne Callies, Best Supporting Actor for Steven Yeun, and Best Supporting Actress for Leslie Holden. Breaking Bad, Fringe, and Lost are next in line with five nominations each.

In addition to honoring genre film and television, The Saturn Awards also honors the best in stage productions and in home video media.

The 37th Annual Saturn Awards will be presented in June in Burbank, California.
