David Cook covers ‘Don’t You (Forget About Me)’ for latest ‘Idol’ swan song

American Idol season 7 champion David Cook, following in the footsteps of fellow past winners Carrie Underwood and Ruben Studdard, has recorded the send-off track for this season of the wildly popular reality competition.

Idol will be using Cook’s cover of the Simple Minds’ “Don’t You (Forget About Me),” the iconic 80s hit made by popular by the film The Breakfast Club. The song will be played in a farewell montage every week to salute an eliminated contestant as the series narrows down its roster of finalists.

You can get an instant download of the full song when you pre-order Cook’s sophomore album on his official website. You can also listen to it on Cook’s official YouTube channel.

The song will be available to purchase individually on iTunes and other digital music retailers on March 8.
