Hope the first month of 2012 has been treating you kindly! I know that there has been so much going on in the entertainment world lately and with awards season in full swing, but my new busy bee life (A part-time job and a part-time film festival internship!) has been keeping me away from writing thoughtful and in-depth blog posts at Karen On. Topped off with me just catching the flu bug that’s been going around one of my offices, it’s been difficult to be productive even when I can stay at home! Alas, new content will have to wait a little while. But I look forward to when I will be able to get them up!
However, I may not get them up if the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and the Protect IP Act (PIPA) passes. Today, Karen On, my personal blog A Professional Dreamer, and Karen-Datangel.net joins giant websites like Google, Wikipedia, and Craigslist and many other bloggers in blacking out our sites to protest against this dangerous legislation. SOPA and PIPA is in violation of our civil liberties and will change the way we use the Internet for worse, absolutely diminishing all the progress we’ve made in the Information Age.
Get educated about what these bills will mean for you and see what steps you can take against it by visiting americancensorship.org. There is information available at this site for actions to take if you’re not from the US (Yes, you can help and support this cause too!). You can also sign this simple petition at Google, or take part in the blackout yourself by visiting SOPAStrike.com.
I want to be able to continue to make my voice heard on the Web. I live for it. And I want all my fellow Internet users to have their freedom. Please take a stand and fight for your liberties.
