I know you’re getting tired of all these Super Bowl/49ers-related posts but I can’t help it.
Today’s photo comes from 2001. From left to right, that’s my youngest cousin Dylan, his brother Scott in fake dork glasses he found somewhere in our house (They did not belong to me), my cousin on the other side of the family Jared (Who comes back from boot camp later this week—YAY!!!), me, and my sister.
Though I mentioned it in last week’s TBT, my sister celebrated her 21st earlier this week. This photo came from her exact birthday in ’01, which so happened to be the date of Super Bowl XXXV featuring the Baltimore Ravens versus the New York Giants at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa. I spent my childhood in a big wonderful house in South San Francisco and my family would hold a lot of house parties for special occasions. We would always host Super Bowl parties since my sister’s birthday always fell near that weekend.
However, after the attacks of 9/11 happened later that year, the Super Bowl would go on to be held one week later than usual. Not only were there no more Super Bowls to go along with my sister’s birthday, but we would move to our current location—a much smaller house in San Francisco with almost no parking spaces—two years later. So, this photo is from one of our last known Super Bowl parties. However, when I have my own place, I sure would like to play hostess and revive the tradition.
The only thing I really remember about this Super Bowl though is that epic halftime show featuring ‘N Sync, Britney Spears, Aerosmith, Nelly, and Mary J. Blige. But being the pop girl that I was and still am, I only cared that ‘N Sync and Britney were performing. That was heavenly.
