I decided to try out a couple of subscription services for a few reasons: 1) They are all the rage, and it is a trend I want to conform to, 2) I love trying out new products and getting them at sweet deals, and 3) I’m always looking for more excuses to write in my blog!
I loved what Michelle Phan‘s phenomenal beauty service Ipsy had to offer, so I decided to experiment with them. At only $10 a month, you can get Ipsy’s Glam Bag full of deluxe samples and sometimes even full-sized products based on a quiz you fill out upon registration. The quiz takes into account your personal style, hair/skin color, and products and brands you love, and the items in your Glam Bag are curated especially for you based on your responses. Ipsy also offers a community for subscribers and users to share reviews and looks they’ve created using their new swag, as well as exclusive offers on full-sized products and a rewards system. Unfortunately, you won’t get a Glam Bag right away. Instead, you’ll be placed on a wait list, though you can get off the wait list by performing a few additional tasks, like inviting Facebook friends to Ipsy. I did not choose to complete those tasks, but it only took me about 2-3 weeks for me to get off the wait list and begin receiving Glam Bags.
The May 2015 Glam Bag had a Jetsetter theme — perfect as summer dawns upon us! The bag itself was made of beige-ish canvas with illustrations of standard beauty products and text that said “CONTENTS: PRETTY IMPORTANT STUFF.” I understand that other bags had slightly different text on it, but pretty much the same style. Good for TSA to know what you’re carrying on your air adventure.
I received a couple of skincare products, one hair care product, one beauty product, and one beauty brush in my custom Glam Bag for May.
Klorane Smoothing and Relaxing Patches (2 samples)
Undereye circles are usually a problem for me, and these patches from France offered a unique solution. Formulated with cornflower, chamomile, and arnica, Klorane Smoothing and Relaxing Patches reduce puffiness, smooth out pesky lines, and generally refresh and brighten your eyes. Just leave them on for 20 minutes and voila! Your eyes are alive again! In the below photo, I paired them up with my regular concealer for maximum benefits.
I don’t use leave-in conditioners very often, but this easy-to-use lightweight formula definitely doesn’t hurt my haircare routine. Fortified with rosehip, argan, and coconut oils, this spray hydrates and moisturizes your hair and makes it easier to manage. Plus, it smells lovely!
This unique face cleanser goes on dry unwashed skin as mud and washes off as foam. Ain’t that fun? It left my skin soft and with a healthy glow. I’m not sure if I would use it everyday myself, however. It feels like more of a once-a-week treat.
Pixi by Petra uses a Vitamin E-enriched formula to protect skin against free radicals. I definitely prefer bronzer over blush because I love that barely-there look, so this product was a great fit for me. This shade, however, seemed to go on too dark. I would’ve liked something slightly lighter.
This was probably my favorite product from my Glam Bag. Plus, I needed a blending brush for my eyeshadow, so I’m so glad I received this product! This wonderful brush has bristles that are coated with an antibacterial solution, so you don’t have to clean it very often. The density of the bristles also makes it tough for product to absorb, so buh-bye wasted eyeshadow!
I wish I received more actual makeup in my Glam Bag, but otherwise, I really did enjoy the items I did receive. I felt like the service really did take into consideration all my beauty interests and needs. I can’t wait to see what I receive from Ipsy in the months ahead!
Are you also an Ipsy subscriber? What did you receive in your May Glam Bag? Did you receive any of the same items I received, and what did you think of them? Sound off in the comments below!
