SUBSCRIPTION REVIEW: POPSUGAR Must Have – May 2015

POPSUGAR Must Have - May 2015

Since I apparently don’t write anything else but product reviews anymore, why not keep it going? I’ve been meaning to subscribe to POPSUGAR Must Have for a while now, and I finally caved a couple of months ago. I don’t know why I didn’t do it sooner because I pretty much love everything POPSUGAR does (I’m just saying this so I can finally get hired by them). Being a premium source for women’s lifestyle content really put them on the map, but launching their subscription box service full of full-sized products REALLY put POPSUGAR on the map.

What is POPSUGAR Must Have? It’s a monthly subscription service where you will receive a surprise curated selection of full-sized products related to beauty, fashion, food, fitness, home decor, and entertainment put together by POPSUGAR founder and Editor-in-Chief Lisa Sugar and her team. A regular subscription costs $39.95 plus taxes per month, with other discounted plans available. The total suggested retail value of the products in the boxes usually run at $100 or more, so you are getting a pretty sweet deal. POPSUGAR Must Have also occasionally sells higher-priced Special Edition boxes that are available for a very limited time, usually to coincide with the seasons or in collaboration with partner brands. The subscriber base is growing fast each day, so sign up ASAP if you want the next box, instead of waiting for the box after that!

About a month before the regular Must Have boxes ship out, subscribers often get a sneak peek at one item in the box and are given hints about the things that inspired the upcoming box. For my first box I received and am reviewing, the keywords and phrases of inspiration for the May 2015 edition included “Glowing Skin,” “Mother’s Day,” “Fresh Flowers,” “Beach Bum,” “Colorful,” and “California Sun.”

Here are all the goodies I received in this one!

Surf Sand Love Beach Towel
Sisters of Los Angeles

Surf Sand Love Beach Towel

This POPSUGAR-designed towel will get you ready for the summer no matter what coast you’re on. I love the bright colors, though I have a hard time identifying with the term “Surf” because I don’t feel like I see a lot of surfers around this part of California. I can’t wait to take this towel with me on a beach day. I already took it out for a spin sitting on the lawn at the Shoreline Amphitheater for the Lana Del Rey concert I went to with family and a friend a couple of weeks ago.

Mini Plum Vase in Coral Red
Middle Kingdom

Middle Kingdom Mini Plum Vase

The little size of this vase makes it oh-so-adorable and the fiery color and craftsmanship of it makes it oh-so-gorgeous! This is a lovely vase for displaying some of your spring stems. Unfortunately for me, I’m not really a flowers person myself, but I plan to give it to a loved one who I think will love it and have a good use for it.

Tri’d & True Y-Shaped Necklace
Kitsch

Tri'd and True Y-Shaped Necklace

This piece of silver jewelry truly makes a fashion statement with its long length, cute Y-shape, and triangle charm. You can layer it with other necklaces, though it’s definitely strong enough to wear on its own. I think it’s a lovely necklace—love the Y-shape!—but I have yet to find an outfit to truly complement it.

Bare Shave Cream
Sage & Row

Sage and Row Bare Shave Cream

Since us ladies will be baring our gams in bikinis, skirts, shorts, and dresses real soon, we gotta make our assets look good and feel smooth! This luxe-scented cream delivers a close shave and conditions skin to silkiness. It lathers well, isn’t super thick, and provides plenty of product to last through the beginning of summer, at least. I usually only use my shower gel to shave my legs, so I’m really glad this miracle product made it into this box. Definitely makes the experience more pleasant, and it really works!
(SRP: $17)

Dry Shampoo
Batiste

Batiste Dry Shampoo

I’ve never used dry shampoo before, but this product has been working well for me. It’s very convenient for before or after I work out and I don’t have time to wash my hair. When I spray this on and massage the formula through my scalp and roots, my entire mane instantly feels refreshed and full of oomph. Don’t even get me started on that intoxicating cherry scent! Though the travel-sized bottle makes it easy to slip into a bag, the info card showed a larger version of the product, which makes me feel like we got played. But I am enjoying using it nonetheless. It’s especially great for people who are on-the-go.
(SRP: $4)

McCraw’s Flat Taffy
Hammond’s Candies

McCraw's Flat Taffy

These colorful taffies will make you feel like you spent a fun day at the boardwalk. There are no artificial colors or flavors added, although they are pretty sweet to begin with. The multicolored taffies come in a variety of interesting flavors. Mine was a pink and lime green cotton candy-flavored one. Like I said, interesting. I thought the taffy itself was pretty delicious though I couldn’t really taste the cotton candy part, but it arrived broken into multiple pieces, so I just went and ate it right away.
(SRP: $1)

Overall, I thought this Must Have box was darn solid, with an excellent mix of products to close out spring and welcome summer. I didn’t particularly hate anything I received, although I could have done without the taffy. My personal favorite products were a toss-up between the shave cream and the dry shampoo. Not only were they the most useful to me, but they were effective and they smelled amazing! What products did you all enjoy?

I recently purchased and received the POPSUGAR Must Have Summer 2015 Special Edition box, and I can not wait to try out and share the products with you all. I can tell you that everything in the box is beautiful!
